How do I choose the right sliding gate kit size?

Measure the clear vehicle opening and choose a kit width that covers it: up to 12′, 16′, or 20′, with a 4′, 5′, or 6′ height. The profiles are cut to fit. Confirm the full gate layout, tail and available runback space before cutting.

Is the listed width the opening or the overall gate length?

The size selector describes the opening-width group. In Alumission’s assembly video, the top and bottom frame members are cut to the measured opening plus a 24″ tail. For example, a 12′ opening uses a 14′ horizontal frame in that demonstrated layout.

How much space does a sliding gate need beside the driveway?

Provide an unobstructed runback area that can accommodate the complete gate as it opens, including its tail, guide and stopping arrangement. Measure the actual assembled gate and full travel; opening width alone is not enough to plan the installation.

Can I cut the gate to a smaller size?

Yes. The frame and slats are cut during assembly. Choose the suitable width group and height, then follow the measured cut plan. Cutting the kit smaller does not reduce its listed price.

Can this gate be installed on a sloping driveway?

A wheel-and-track gate needs a properly planned rolling path. A slope across the gate’s travel can affect alignment, ground clearance and safe operation. Have your installer evaluate the site rather than assuming the gate can follow the driveway slope.

Is this a cantilever gate?

This kit uses V-groove wheels and ground V-track. It is not sold as a trackless cantilever system; the 24″ tail shown in the assembly video does not turn it into one.

What is the sliding gate frame made from?

Alumission Aluminum Post 2 Channels forms the top, bottom, front, rear and center frame members. One or more center members divide the opening into slat bays. Slats are captured within the frame channels.

What screws connect the gate frame?

Use #8 screws for the aluminum frame and slat assembly connections shown in the video. The galvanized steel extension tubes use #12 screws. These fasteners have different jobs and should not be interchanged.

Does the gate require welding?

The demonstrated gate assembly uses cut aluminum profiles, screws, corner braces and steel extension inserts, without welding the aluminum gate frame. Site work for the track, supports or automation is separate.

How do I calculate the slat cut length?

For the equal-width bays demonstrated in the video: slat length = (opening width − 5″ − 1.5″ × number of center posts) ÷ (number of center posts + 1). Use inches throughout and confirm your frame layout before cutting the full batch.

How many center posts does my gate need?

Center members reinforce the slats and divide the gate into bays. The number depends on the selected width and assembly layout. Follow the size-specific parts list and cut plan; do not apply a single center-post count to every width.

How is a long frame extended?

The video joins frame sections with a 1¼″ square, 4′ galvanized steel tube, inserting approximately 2′ into each profile. It shows three #12 screws on each side of the joint. Keep the channels aligned and the joint flush.

Why is the front frame cut shorter than the finished gate height?

The video subtracts 3½″ from the intended overall height for its 3″ V-groove wheel and track arrangement. Confirm the actual wheel, track and finished-ground clearances before using that allowance.

What happens if the last slat does not fit the height?

The video trims the final slat lengthwise as needed, leaving approximately ⅞″ above the vertical members to engage the top frame channel. Check the fit before securing the top frame.

When should the post covers and snap covers be installed?

Slide the front outer-channel cover into place before closing the top frame, as shown in the video. Finish the remaining channel covers, screw-track snap covers and tail caps after the frame is secured.

Does the video cover the complete site installation?

The video covers measuring, cutting and assembling the gate leaf. Ground-track anchoring, final guides and stops, and motor installation require their own site-specific installation steps.

Which colors can I order?

Choose Black, Bronze, Dark Gray, Light Gray, White or Wood. The Wood option uses wood-look aluminum slats with a black frame; it is not a timber gate.

Are the wheels included when I choose No Hardware?

Yes. The gate kit’s wheels remain included. No Hardware means the optional track, catcher, guide assembly and motor-chain bracket package is not added.

What does Add Hardware include?

The package adds stainless-steel V-track sections, a gate catcher, a dual-roller guide assembly and a pair of motor-chain attachment brackets. The Product Details tab lists the exact quantities for the selected width group.

How much does the hardware option add?

Select Add Hardware to see the price including the V-track, catcher, guide assembly and chain-bracket package. No Hardware excludes that package but still includes the wheels and corner braces.

Is a gate motor included?

No. The optional hardware includes chain attachment brackets, not a motor, chain, controls, power supply or safety sensors. Select an operator for the finished gate’s weight, length, use and site conditions.

Can the gate be automated?

Automation must be designed around the finished gate and installed with the operator manufacturer’s required guides, stops and entrapment protection. Use a qualified gate-automation installer and provide a separate pedestrian entrance.

How do I maintain an aluminum sliding gate?

Clean the coated aluminum gently with water and mild soap, rinse and dry. Keep the V-track free of stones and debris, and inspect screws, wheels, guides and stops periodically. Follow the operator manufacturer’s maintenance instructions if automated.

Aluminum does not develop iron rust. The complete installation also contains steel and stainless-steel components, which still need appropriate care. Avoid abrasive cleaners and repair coating damage using suitable manufacturer guidance.

Which style offers the privacy I want?

Compare the style photos and its slat-and-spacer layout. Wider gaps allow more visibility; closer slats provide more screening. Privacy and wind exposure depend on the actual configuration, not the style name alone.

Is the kit supplied as a finished, assembled gate?

No. It is a cut-to-fit assembly kit. Plan for measuring, cutting, squaring and fastening the frame and slats, followed by installation of the gate’s rolling and guide system.

Manual operation or motorized automation

This is a gate assembly kit for a wheeled, track-guided installation. It can be planned for manual use or a compatible automatic sliding gate operator. The motor, drive chain, controls, power supply and safety sensors are not included. A frame built to capture and support the slats

The top, bottom and vertical frame members are made from Alumission Aluminum Post 2 Channels. One or more center members reinforce the slats and divide the gate into bays. The slats fit into the horizontal and vertical frame channels; #8 screws secure the aluminum assembly connections. Galvanized steel inserts and #12 screws join frame extensions where required.

The system uses Alumission’s aluminum slats and spacers, with the profile widths and pattern specified for your selected style. It is a screw-assembled kit that you cut and assemble to fit your opening.

Choose your size, finish and hardware

Available for openings up to 12′, 16′ or 20′ wide, each at 4′, 5′ or 6′ high. The assembly video adds a 24″ tail to the measured opening when cutting the horizontal frame. Allow for that complete gate length and its runback space.

What span is the aluminum Wall Topper designed for?

Each Wall Topper section is designed around a nominal 6-foot span between posts. The supplied horizontal slats are 6 feet long. Verify the actual field measurement before cutting, and plan one post per span plus one terminal post at the end of the run.

Which Wall Topper heights are available?

All five Wall Topper styles are offered in seven nominal heights: 1 foot, 1 foot 6 inches, 2 feet, 2 feet 6 inches, 3 feet, 3 feet 6 inches, and 4 feet. Select the height that fits the project, then review the exact style-specific material schedule shown on the product page.

How do I plan a multi-span Wall Topper run?

Yes. The aluminum slats are supplied in 6-foot lengths and may be field cut to fit a shorter verified opening. Use suitable cutting equipment, keep cuts square, remove burrs, protect the finish, and confirm the finished post-to-post dimension before cutting.

What is included with an Alumission Wall Topper kit?

The selected kit includes Aluminum Post 2 Channels, two channel covers and one cap per post, an 18-inch zinc-coated steel post base and matching aluminum base cover per post, 6-foot aluminum slats in the selected style and height, the required pattern spacers where applicable, and stainless steel self-drilling assembly screws. Wall anchors are not included because the correct fastener depends on the wall material and project conditions.

How do Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and San Francisco styles differ?

Dallas combines wide 5.5-inch slats with a four-slat 1-inch accent band. Los Angeles uses evenly spaced 5.5-inch slats. Miami centers a four-slat 1-inch accent band between wide slats. New York is a tight-stacked full-privacy design with size-specific finishing slats. San Francisco uses closely spaced 1-inch slats for a linear look. Is the Wood finish real wood?

No. The Wood option is a wood-look finish applied to aluminum slats, not natural timber. It provides the warmth of a wood appearance while keeping the low-maintenance, noncombustible aluminum construction of the Wall Topper system.

How much privacy does an aluminum Wall Topper add?

Privacy depends on the selected style, height, slat sizes, and spacing. New York is the most closed design, while Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, and San Francisco create different levels of screening and visibility. Compare the style-specific drawings and material schedule before choosing.

Installation & Mounting

How do the base plate and base cover work?

Each post uses a zinc-coated steel base with a 4-inch by 4-inch plate and an 18-inch stem. The plate is anchored to a structurally suitable wall, the aluminum base cover slides over the plate to conceal the mounting screws or anchors, and the aluminum post slides over the steel stem. Plumb and align every post before installing the slats.

Can the Wall Topper be installed on concrete, masonry, wood, or steel?

Installation may be possible on concrete, masonry, properly reinforced wood, steel, or another structurally suitable wall when the correct substrate-specific anchors are used. Anchors are not included. The installer is responsible for confirming wall condition, edge distances, waterproofing, fastener selection, wind exposure, loads, and code or permit requirements.

Are anchors for the existing wall included?

No. Wall anchors are not included because the correct fastener and embedment depend on the wall material, wall condition, edge distances, loads, and site exposure. Select an anchor system specifically approved for the actual substrate and project conditions.

How do I know whether my wall can support a Wall Topper?

The existing wall and its foundation must be structurally suitable for the planned topper, anchors, height, and site loads. Inspect the wall for cracks, loose caps, deterioration, insufficient thickness, or other damage. When suitability is uncertain, have a qualified contractor or design professional evaluate it before installation.

Does the Wall Topper require welding?

No welding is required for the kit assembly. Installation is a mechanical field-fit process that requires accurate measuring, cutting, drilling, leveling, fastening, and anchoring. Channel covers snap into place after assembly to conceal the slat-fastening screws.

Which finishes are available, and how should the Wall Topper be maintained?

Current finish options may include Black, Bronze, White, Dark Grey, Light Gray, and Wood. Availability can change by configuration. Clean powder-coated aluminum with water, mild soap, and a soft cloth; avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals, and tools that can scratch the finish.

What should I verify before ordering?

Can a Wall Topper follow a stepped or sloped wall?

A stepped wall can often be planned as separate level sections with post locations and field cuts coordinated at each change in elevation. A continuously sloped wall requires a custom layout. Measure every section carefully and confirm the proposed arrangement with Alumission before ordering.

Do I need a permit or HOA approval for a Wall Topper?

Requirements vary by location and property. Check local height limits, setbacks, wind and structural rules, permit requirements, easements, and any HOA or architectural-review standards before ordering or installing. The product drawings are planning references, not stamped permit or structural drawings.
