Questions & Answers
Find answers about applications, dimensions, compatible components, installation, finishes, ordering, and care for the Aluminum Post – 2 Channels.
Product & Applications
What is the Aluminum Post – 2 Channels?
It is a powder-coated 6063-T6 aluminum extrusion with two opposing channels designed to receive aluminum slats. It can be installed vertically or horizontally in Alumission fence and sliding gate systems.
What is this aluminum post used for?
This profile has three primary uses: an in-line post for horizontal-slat fencing, a top and bottom rail for vertical-slat fencing, and a frame profile for Alumission aluminum sliding gates.
Can this post be installed directly into the ground?
The post is designed to be embedded in a properly sized concrete footing. The concrete surrounds the embedded portion of the post and holds it level and plumb.
Can it be used as a surface-mounted post?
It may be used with a compatible post-base assembly where the project design allows. Surface-mount suitability depends on fence height, wind exposure, mounting surface, fasteners, and applicable building requirements.
Can the profile be installed horizontally?
Yes. It can be installed horizontally as the top and bottom frame for a vertical-slat aluminum fence. The channels hold and align the vertical slats.
Can it be used to build a sliding gate?
Yes. This profile is used as part of the Alumission aluminum sliding gate system to create the outer gate frame and hold the selected aluminum slats.
Is this an end post or an in-line post?
It is primarily an in-line post because the two main slat channels face opposite directions. For an end, side, or corner location, use the Alumission profile designed for that specific position.
Can this profile be used as a structural building column?
No. It is intended for Alumission fence and gate systems. It should not be used as a structural column for a building, patio cover, balcony, or other load-bearing structure.
Can it be used with glass panels?
Yes. Use the profile with the Aluminum Post Cover for Glass and the 1″ Aluminum Slat for Glass. This creates a channel for compatible 1/4″-thick materials, including glass, acrylic, aluminum sheet, and similar panel materials.
Slats, Screws & Covers
How are the aluminum slats installed?
Slide the slats into the main channels, align them in the required positions, and secure them through the narrow screw tracks on the sides of the profile.
What screws should be used to attach the slats?
The dedicated screw tracks are designed for compatible #6 or #8 screws. The proper screw type and length depend on the selected slat and installation conditions.
Are the attachment screws included?
No. The #6 or #8 attachment screws are sold separately.
Is the Snap Cover for Post 2 Channels included?
No. The matching Snap Cover for Post 2 Channels is sold separately.
What is the snap cover used for?
The snap cover presses into the narrow screw track after the slats and screws are installed. It conceals the fasteners and creates a clean, finished appearance.
How many snap covers do I need?
Each post requires two Snap Covers, with each cover matching the full length of the post.
Is a post cap included?
No. The product includes one aluminum profile in the selected length and color. Post caps, bases, covers, screws, slats, and installation materials are sold separately.
Which cap fits this post?
The compatible accessory is the In-line Post Cap – Two Channel Post Cap, sold separately.
Can I use slats from another manufacturer?
Only if their dimensions and attachment requirements are compatible with the 0.827″ channel opening and the Alumission fastening system. Confirm compatibility before ordering or modifying the profile.
Can wood or composite boards be inserted into the channels?
They may fit if their actual dimensions are compatible, but wood and composite materials expand and contract differently from aluminum. Clearance, drainage, fasteners, weight, and span requirements must be evaluated before installation.
Finish & Maintenance
What colors are available?
The profile is available in Black, Bronze, White, Dark Gray, and Light Gray.
Is the profile powder coated?
Yes. The profile receives a durable powder-coated finish designed for outdoor aluminum fence and gate applications.
Will the aluminum post rust?
Aluminum does not develop red rust like untreated steel. The powder coating also provides additional protection and a consistent finished appearance.
Is the profile suitable for outdoor use?

Dimensions & Material
What are the outside dimensions of the profile?
The overall cross-section measures approximately 3.500″ wide × 1.752″ deep.
What is the wall thickness?
The nominal unmarked wall thickness is approximately 0.057″. All dimensions are nominal, and standard aluminum-extrusion tolerances apply.
How wide is each slat channel opening?
The clear opening of each main slat channel is approximately 0.827″.
How far do the slats insert into the channel?
The approximate slat insertion depth is 1″.
What is the size of the center cavity?
The center cavity measures approximately 1.299″ × 1.299″. It is sized to accept a 1-1/4″ steel tube for a post base or profile extension while providing the necessary installation tolerance.
What aluminum alloy is used?
The profile is manufactured from 6063-T6 aluminum, an architectural aluminum alloy commonly used for extruded fence, gate, and building components.
Is the profile solid or hollow?
It is a hollow, multi-chamber aluminum extrusion. This construction provides useful strength while keeping the profile lighter than a comparable solid section.

The dimensions are nominal. Minor dimensional variations are normal with extruded aluminum and powder-coated finishes.
Installation
How deep should the post be embedded in concrete?
The required embedment depends on fence height, post spacing, soil conditions, wind exposure, local codes, and the overall system design. Verify the appropriate footing and embedment requirements for your project before installation.
What size concrete footing is required?
There is no single footing size suitable for every installation. Footing diameter and depth must be selected according to soil conditions, fence height, wind load, post spacing, and applicable building requirements.
Does the inside of the post need to be filled with concrete?
Mainly, no. The concrete footing normally surrounds the embedded portion of the post. Internal filling or additional reinforcement is only needed when required by the specific project design.
What post spacing should I use?
Typical post spacing is 6 to 8 feet on center. Final spacing depends on the slat length, fence height, wind exposure, soil conditions, installation type, and applicable building requirements.
Can the profile be cut to a shorter length?
Yes. It can be field-cut using suitable aluminum-cutting equipment and a blade intended for nonferrous metal. Measure carefully and protect the powder-coated finish while cutting.
Will a cut edge rust?
No. Aluminum does not rust like steel.
Can I drill additional holes into the profile?
Yes, when required for the approved fence or gate assembly. Drilling or modifying the profile should be carefully planned because modified products cannot be returned.
Can this aluminum profile be welded?
6063-T6 aluminum can be welded by a qualified aluminum fabricator, but welding can damage the powder coating and affect the heat-treated properties around the weld. Welding should only be performed as part of a properly designed assembly.
