8″ × 2″ Mounting Plate
The custom gate-side plate measures 8″ long by 2″ wide.
The Heavy-Duty Ball-Bearing Barrel Gate Hinge is built for very large, fully framed swing gates that need a robust connection between the gate frame and a structural steel post. It combines a serviceable barrel hinge with Alumission’s custom 8″ × 2″ bolt-on mounting plate.
The long plate attaches to the fully framed gate with through-bolts and nuts, while the opposite hinge tab is welded to a steel support post. This bolt-on/weld-on arrangement is compatible with Alumission’s 3″ × 3″ × 8′ heavy-duty steel gate post and other properly selected structural steel posts.
Inside the approximately 5″-long barrel is a single steel ball bearing that supports smooth rotation. A grease fitting allows periodic lubrication. Each hinge is sold individually so the installer can select the hinge quantity and spacing required for the gate design.
The long steel plate spreads the connection along the gate frame and gives the installer two through-bolt locations.
The custom gate-side plate measures 8″ long by 2″ wide.
Two mounting holes accept appropriately selected 3/8″ through-bolts.
Attach the plate through the structural gate frame using bolts, nuts, and any required washers selected for the project.
This hinge requires a structural gate frame capable of carrying the connection loads; it is not intended for an unframed panel.
The opposite hinge half has a steel tab that is welded directly to a properly selected and prepared steel post.
A qualified welder attaches the post-side tab to the structural steel post.
The hinge can be used with Alumission’s 3″ × 3″ × 8′ heavy-duty steel gate post when suitable for the completed gate design.
Hinge axes must be aligned before final welding so the gate can move smoothly without binding.
After welding, clean and protect exposed steel with an exterior coating system compatible with the installation environment.
The barrel design is separable for installation and includes service features for demanding gate applications.
The pinned hinge half rides on a steel ball bearing inside the barrel assembly.
Periodic lubrication through the grease fitting helps maintain smooth movement and protect the bearing surfaces.
The reference barrel hinge is approximately 5″ long and 1″ in diameter.
Inspect hinge alignment, lubrication, fasteners, welds, corrosion protection, and gate movement as part of routine gate maintenance.
No universal gate-weight rating applies to the finished installation because capacity is controlled by the complete gate, post, weld, and hinge arrangement.
Gate capacity depends on hinge quantity, spacing, weld quality, gate construction, post strength, wind loading, and installation.
Order the number of hinges required by the gate design; the listed price is for one hinge.
Large or motorized gates should be designed, welded, installed, and adjusted by qualified gate professionals.
Confirm hinge orientation, swing direction, frame and post geometry, ground clearance, operator forces, and safety requirements before installation.
Included: One heavy-duty black steel ball-bearing barrel gate hinge with one custom 8″ × 2″ bolt-on gate plate, two 3/8″ mounting holes, one weld-on post tab, one internal steel ball bearing, and one grease fitting.
Sold separately: Gate, steel support post, mounting bolts, nuts, washers, welding consumables, finish-repair materials, gate operator, controls, safety devices, and installation tools.
Review the confirmed dimensions, barrel construction, and bolt-on/weld-on installation arrangement before planning the gate frame and steel post.
No universal gate-weight rating is stated. Capacity depends on hinge quantity, spacing, weld quality, gate construction, post strength, wind loading, installation, and maintenance.
Answers about gate compatibility, mounting, dimensions, bearing maintenance, hinge quantity, and the compatible steel post.
It is designed for very large, fully framed swing gates with a structural frame capable of accepting the bolt-on plate.
No. The 8″ mounting plate must be through-bolted to a suitable structural gate frame.
Yes. Use it on properly designed single gates or on each leaf of a properly designed double swing gate.
Yes, when the gate, post, hinge quantity and spacing, operator geometry, welds, and safety system are properly designed for the powered installation.
Yes. The post-side hinge tab can be welded to Alumission’s heavy-duty steel gate post when that post is suitable for the completed gate design.
The custom gate-side plate measures 8″ long by 2″ wide.
The plate has two holes, each 3/8″ in diameter.
The barrel hinge body is approximately 5″ long and 1″ in diameter.
Yes. It uses a single steel ball bearing inside the barrel assembly.
Yes. A grease fitting provides access for periodic lubrication.
The 8″ × 2″ plate is through-bolted to the fully framed gate using appropriately selected bolts, nuts, and washers.
The opposite steel tab is welded to a structural steel gate post by a qualified welder.
No. Mounting hardware must be selected for the gate frame and installation conditions.
The required quantity depends on gate size, weight, frame stiffness, hinge spacing, wind exposure, operator forces, post strength, and installation design. Consult a qualified gate professional or engineer.
No universal finished-gate capacity is stated. Capacity depends on the complete gate, number and spacing of hinges, welds, post, frame, site conditions, installation, and maintenance.
The listed price is for one hinge. Select the quantity required for your gate design.
Periodically inspect fasteners, welds, corrosion protection, alignment, and gate movement, and lubricate the bearing through the grease fitting as required.
