Sizing & Fit

How do I choose the correct Los Angeles gate kit size?

Measure the finished opening between the mounting surfaces at the top, middle, and bottom, then measure the available height. Use the smallest measurements and choose the smallest kit whose listed width and height are equal to or larger than your opening. The selected size is the maximum opening the kit can fit. For example, a 45″-wide opening requires the 4′-wide kit, which is cut to fit the actual opening.

How long should I cut the horizontal slats?

Install, level, and securely fasten both side posts first. Measure the actual opening between the installed side posts, then cut every horizontal slat exactly 8″ shorter than that measurement. For example, if the installed opening is 45″, cut each slat to 37″. Always use the final installed measurement, not only the nominal kit size.

What does Los Angeles Style look like, and is it full privacy?

Los Angeles Style uses 5.5″ horizontal aluminum slats with consistent 1/2″ gaps created by the included spacers. The narrow gaps provide a modern semi-private appearance while allowing limited airflow and visibility. It is not a full-privacy design.

What is included in the Los Angeles Single Swing Gate Kit?

Each kit includes two aluminum side posts, two gate-frame profiles, matching channel and frame covers, gate and side-post stoppers, caps, 1/2″ spacers, two adjustable 4″ self-closing hinges, one Schlage keyed entry lever, and 100 stainless steel assembly screws. It also includes the Los Angeles Style 5.5″ slats: 8 for a 4′-high gate, 10 for a 5′-high gate, or 12 for a 6′-high gate.

What material and finish are used, and which colors are available?

The primary profiles are made from 6063-T6 architectural aluminum and finished with an exterior-grade powder coat. Aluminum does not rust like steel and requires minimal maintenance. Available finishes are Black, Bronze, White, Dark Gray, Light Gray, and Wood. Select a color to see its current availability and lead time.

Installation & Mounting

Can the included side posts mount to concrete, masonry, wood, or steel?

Yes, provided the mounting surface is stable and strong enough to support the gate. The two aluminum side posts can be mounted to concrete columns, masonry, properly reinforced wood framing, steel posts, and other suitable structures using the correct surface-specific fasteners. Anchors and mounting bolts are not included because the required type and length depend on the substrate.

Is this a DIY gate kit, and does it require welding?

Yes. The kit is designed for mechanical DIY assembly and does not require welding. Installation requires accurate measuring, cutting, drilling, leveling, and secure anchoring. Review the complete installation video and four-page illustrated guide in the product gallery before starting. Use a qualified installer when the mounting surface or structural support is uncertain.

Are the included gate hinges self-closing and adjustable?

Yes. Every Los Angeles Single Swing Gate Kit includes two adjustable 4″ self-closing hinges. After the gate is hung, leveled, and aligned, follow the hinge instructions to set the closing tension for smooth, controlled operation.

Is a lock included, and can I install a deadbolt or smart lock?

The kit includes one Schlage keyed entry lever. The 1-3/4″-deep gate frame can also be prepared for many standard levers, deadbolts, latches, and compatible smart locks. Before drilling, confirm the selected hardware’s backset, bore size, clearance requirements, and gate handing.

How does shipping work, and can I return the gate kit?

Free shipping is included. Current production time is shown with the selected finish; special colors and Wood finishes typically ship within 4–8 weeks. Standard kits may be returned within 30 days of delivery when unused, uninstalled, and in their original condition. The customer pays return shipping, and there is no restocking fee. Damaged or defective items are replaced according to Alumission’s return policy.
